Much like Hansel in Zoolander, wireless temperature probes are so hot right now. Pellet grill maker recteq is the latest company to release a wireless temperature probe to make cooking easier.

Retailing for $279.99 (check price), the 4X Wireless Probes communicate with the recteq phone app through Bluetooth and WiFi. The four probes in the pack rest and recharge in the Wireless Connectivity Hub, which doubles as a communication gateway.

You can use all four probes at the same time to monitor multiple proteins. While temperature reading is done with the recteq app, a recteq grill is not required for use.

The external temperature for using the probes shouldn’t exceed 650 degrees F, so they’ll work for grilling if you don’t get the temperature too high. The tip of the probe, or the internal temperature of what you’re cooking, has a maximum of 220 degrees F.

I think the biggest missed opportunity here is the Wireless Connectivity Hub may be wireless to communicate, but it needs to be plugged in or run off four AA batteries. You can’t charge the unit and take it with you to put near your grill.
