For the new year Ooni has some changes on the way with their popular pizza ovens. They are sunsetting one of the Karu ovens and raising the price of their large Koda 2 Max.
Karu Line
Ooni released the Karu 2 Pro last October which features their new connected technology, a larger opening in the front, and a 17″ cooking surface. Beyond that it has multi-fuel cooking abilities like all of the Karu ovens.
With the release of the Karu 2 Pro it seemed like the Karu 16, their 16″ multi-fuel oven, didn’t really fit in the line-up anymore. Ooni must have felt the same way because their dropping the Karu 16, with the Karu 2 Pro taking it’s place as the large multi-fuel oven in the line-up.
Another change that’s coming to make the Karu line more streamlined is the Karu 12G, which was released in spring of 2023, will be renamed the Karu 2. This matched the naming convention of the Karu 2 Pro, which will be easier to understand by consumers.
Ooni still has the entry multi-fuel oven, the Karu 12, so their line-up has traditional good, better, best models. That would be the Karu 12, the Karu 2, and the Karu 2 Pro, respectively. It seems like they should consider renaming the Karu 12 just Karu to match the other models.
Koda 2 Max Price Increase
The other change that Ooni is making to their line-up in January is they are increasing the price of the Koda 2 Max by $200 from $999 to $1,199. The price change will be effective January 2nd, 2025.
The Koda 2 Max is their biggest oven with a large 24″ of cooking space across two pizza stones. It also has all of Ooni’s latest technology with app connectivity.
When compare to Ooni’s main competitor, Gozney, the price increase doesn’t change where it’s slotted in a head-to-head comparison. Gozney increased their offerings recently with the Arc, Arc XL, and the Dome S1.
The Gozney Arc XL retails for $849.99, then there’s a big jump to the Dome S1 at $1,499.99. The price increase on the Ooni Koda 2 Max puts it right in-between the Arc XL and the Dome S1.
