Ooni is expanding their multi-fuel Karu line with the Karu 2 Pro pizza oven. It takes the features found on their Karu 16 oven and combines it with the connected technology of the new Koda 2 Max.
The Karu 2 Pro Pizza Oven is more than just an appliance; it’s an invitation to explore the endless possibilities of outdoor cooking. When cutting-edge tech meets wood-fired cooking, we’re offering true versatility, control, and convenience. This oven is for those truly passionate about outdoor cooking.

Naming Convention
Before diving into the new oven, I thought I’d give Cliff’s Notes on their models to make it easier to understand. For Ooni, their Koda pizza oven is exclusively propane.
The Karu pizza oven on the other hand is multi-fuel. That means you can use wood, charcoal, or a propane burner that’s sold separately. It gives you the most cooking options possible.
The number used to denote the size pizza it could fit. For example, the Karu 16 is an oven that cooks up to 16” pizzas. That’s usually still true, except the Koda 2 Max is a 24” oven and the new Karu 2 Pro has a 17″ cooking surface. The number 2 in the name could refer to the two pizza stones in the oven, or that it’s digitally connected.

Heat Retention
A nice feature on the Karu 2 Pro is it has a glass door to be able to keep the heat in, without losing visibility on the pizza. It uses their latest GlassView technology which offers superior heat retention while resisting soot and ash build-up.
Most other pizza ovens on the market either don’t have a door on the front or have one that isn’t see through. You can use Ooni’s pizza ovens year-round, and the glass door helps on the cold days.
Ooni Connect
The biggest upgrade with the new oven is the Ooni Connect Digital Temperature Hub. It’s not just an integrated thermometer like you find on other pizza ovens.
The hub connects with the Ooni app through Bluetooth to let you know the oven temperature. This means you can fire it up, go start to get pizzas ready, and you’ll know from your kitchen when it’s time to launch a pizza in the oven.
The hub also has a temperature probe that plugs into it, like you’d find on some grills. This isn’t too useful for pizzas, but with the large cooking area, it will come in handy for cooking other food.
The temperature from the probe is also sent to the Ooni app, so you can monitor it remotely. It’s a helpful addition to make it easier to cook with the pizza oven.
