Electric grills have become more popular because they’re easy to use. They still are in their early stages, but whether you live in a tight space, or you don’t want to mess with fire, they are a good option to still get a grilling experience.
Nexgrill is the latest company to offer an electric models when their new Fuse line. It comes in two different models, the 400, which is a 22″ dual zone griddle, and the 225, which is an electric grill.
Fuse 400
Griddles are great because the additional surface area makes it easier to cook different food. This is especially apparent when cooking breakfast, when space in pans becomes a real premium.
Outdoor gas griddles are the best for power and food variety, but when the weather is terrible, or you don’t want to lug around a propane tank, they become less of an option. That’s why more companies have been coming out with electric griddles.

Electric Griddling
The Fuse looks like a good option for an electric griddle. It runs off a standard outlet and heats the griddle top with two heat elements underneath.
What’s nice about the electric griddle is you can use it indoors or outdoors. Plus, it has a non-stick griddle surface, so cleaning is much easier than a gas griddle.
It’s obviously not going to have the power of a gas grill, and you have to be a little gentler with the non-stick surface. That being said, an electric griddle is much more enjoyable to cook breakfast on indoors that a whole bunch of pans. Plus, it helps keep the mess contained.
Fuse 225
The Fuse 225 electric grill is a small grill with a briefcase shape to it. It works indoors or outdoors and brings some features of a more traditional grill.

Namely, the cooking grates are porcelain coated cast iron, and it has a front grease cup. Both features give a better grilling experience.

- Retail price of $299 CAD (check price)
- 220.5 square inches of cooking area

Heat Retention
With the electric grills we’ve seen come out so far they always are fighting against two challenges that are kind of two sides of the same coin. One is time to warm up and the other is heat drop when cooking.
Nexgrill does two things to help in the area of heat retention. The first is they use cast iron cooking great, which may take a little longer to heat up, but retain heat well. The second is the Fuse has an insulated lid to help keep the heat in.
If you love grilling on gas or charcoal, is the Fuse 225 going to replace that? Probably not, but for people that can’t use fire, grill infrequently, or want an easy supplement to their full size grill, it’s not a bad option.
Coming to America?
One thing worth noting is when you go to Nexgrill’s US site, it says “Buy @ Canada” where it would normally list a price or take you to a retailer. On their Canadian site it shows that it’s available at Costco Canada. We don’t know if the Fuse 225 will make its way to the US.
