Traeger made headlines when they released the Flatrock two years ago. It was their first griddle and their first departure from wood pellets for fuel.
The Flatrock was released into a really bad outdoor cooking market, yet exceeded their sales expectations. It was successful enough that they had production shortages on the new product.
The success of the Flatrock, and the overall griddle category, may have motivated Traeger to push more into griddles. According to a recent trademark filing, they filed for the name Wasatch, which is in the category of outdoor griddles.
What is Wasatch?
It’s speculation at this point that Traeger is developing a griddle named Wasatch, but given the accuracy of previous speculation around trademark filings, it’s very plausible. Plus, it follows the naming convention that they’ve created for their product line-up.
For their three pellet grill models, they all have wood-themed named. There’s Woodridge, Ironwood, and Timberline. Their griddle on the other hand is named Flatrock, which has rock in the title.
The Wasatch Mountains are a mountain range that run through Utah, where Traeger is headquartered. It’s also another rock themed name, which would fit with their griddles.
This part is just a guess, but it seems like with Wasatch being a much grander name than Flatrock, it would need to be on a larger product. The Flatrock is a three-burner griddle, while most companies offer a four-burner model as their flagship. Perhaps the Wasatch will be a larger, four-burner model to add a higher price point to their griddle line-up.
