Wireless temperature probes have exploded this year with new models from all the key players like Meater, ThermoWorks and FireBoard. Not only have they been building new wireless probes, they’re also creating ecosystems around their products.
Combustion Inc. also has a wireless probe, but they just announced a new product to their ecosystem that makes it even better. It’s called the Giant Grill Gauge, but it’s does much more than just tell you the ambient temp of your grill or smoker.

Wireless Probe Range
One of the main problems that companies with wireless probes try to solve is the limited range of a wireless signal. ThermoWorks’ new probe uses a lower frequency to more easily travel through the walls of a smoker.
Other companies rely on a wireless gateway that you set next to your grill, so the signal from the probe doesn’t have to go far, and then it can be uploaded to the cloud with WiFi. The Combustion Inc. came up with a much more creative solution with the Giant Grill Gauge.
By operating as a thermometer for your grill, it already is stuck on the lid with a probe stuck through the grill wall. This gives a way for a wireless signal from their wireless probe in your food to reliably interact with the Giant Grill Gauge. It doesn’t need to make it through the wall.
Unlike the solutions that have a gateway that’s at best just a display, the Giant Grill Gauge has it’s own function as a thermometer. That means you have one less thing to buy for your grill, it makes the probes work even better, and it doesn’t take up any additional space.
