Coleman has been synonymous with camping and cooking outdoors for a long time. In addition to their storied camp stove, they also have a line of portable gas grills called RoadTrip grills. There are 4 different Coleman portable grills in the current line-up, so we’ll walk through the differences to help you make a buying decision. They all offer collapsible carts, matchless ignition, changeable cooktops (change for griddle, stove top) and grease management.

Coleman Road Trip Sportster

The cheapest Coleman grill in the line-up is oddly named. On Coleman’s website it’s called the Road Trip Sportster (note, not RoadTrip like the rest) and on other websites they drop the Road Trip moniker entirely. This is a very basic grill with the following features.

  • MSRP of $179.99
  • 1 burner with 11,000 BTUs of power
  • 225 square inches of cooking area
  • Porcelain-coated stamped steel grate

Coleman RoadTrip X-Cursion

Next up in the RoadTrip line-up is the RoadTrip X-Cursion. This 2-burner Coleman roadtrip grill comes in 5 different colors with the following features, that are a step up from the Sportser.

  • MSRP of $219.99
  • 2 burners with 20,000 BTUs of power
  • 285 square inches of cooking area
  • Porcelain-coated, cast iron grills

Coleman RoadTrip 225

One step above the RoadTrip X-Cursion in price is the RoadTrip 225. We don’t really understand this grill’s place in the line-up. It has less cooking area, less cooking power and less versatility than the X-Cursion, yet costs more. Nonetheless, here are the features.

  • MSRP of $274.99
  • 2 burners with 11,000 BTUs of power
  • 225 square inches of cooking area

The top of the line is the Coleman RoadTrip 285. What sets this portable gas grill apart from the rest of the line is it’s larger cooking area and 3 burners. It comes in 5 different colors and has the following features.

  • MSRP of $319.99
  • 3 burners with 20,000 BTUs of power
  • 285 square inches of cooking area
  • 2 side tables
  • Integrated thermometer

Summary

There are quite a few options in the Coleman Roadtrip grill line-up. The portable grill that stands out to us is in the line is the RoadTrip X-Cursion. It’s a great value at $219.99 MSRP and has the same cooking power and cooking area as the RoadTrip 285. If we were going to be using the grill a lot, we might step up to the RoadTrip 285 just because the versatility of an extra burner is nice as well as having a thermometer.

If you don’t like gas as a fuel source, there are some great portable pellet grills and portable charcoal grills on the market.
