One of the primary complaints with a pellet grill is there isn’t enough smoke flavor. Pellet grills work very efficiently, so not enough smoke gets absorbed into your food. Camp Chef had a great solution for this with their Smoker Box technology that was released on the Woodwind Pro and the XXL Pro Vertical Smoker.
In addition to the integrated Smoker Box, Camp Chef has another idea for adding smoke flavor that consumers crave. According to a recent patent filing, they’ve developed a integrated pellet smoke tube.
As you can see from the featured image of this article, and from the cutaway drawing above, item 101 is a removeable smoke tube. It can be filled with pellets to offer a secondary source of smoke.
While the Smoker Box technology from the Woodwind Pro is a huge step forward for smoke, an integrated pellet smoke tube does offer some advantages. Mainly from a manufacturing and durability standpoint, it eliminates the slide and butterfly assembly.
The smoke tube also has the benefit of having an ignitor (106 in the drawing above), rather than relying on the fire from the fire pot. That removes some friction from the start-up process for the user.
With the Smoker Box technology already having a successful launch, we’ll see if the manufacturing investment is worth it for Camp Chef to have another smoke option. It’s a great idea though for additional smoke creation.
