Chimineas have been popular in the Southwest and Mexico for many years and are traditionally made from clay or terracotta. They’re sometimes used for decoration, but are designed to be a functional fireplace for any weather. As experts in ceramic devices that hold fire, Big Green Egg sold a version of one in the late 90’s.
To celebrate turning 50 this year, Big Green Egg is bringing their Chiminea back for a limited time. It will go on sale through their dealer network starting this spring and lasting through the fall.
The new Chiminea will retail for $689, and features some design updates from the original version. It’s a one-piece design with a metal flue. The front features a powder coated steel grate with an acacia handle to access the inside.
It comes with a nest, so it has a place to live in your backyard out of the box. It also comes with Lava Rocks to improve heat retention.
