William “Billy” Bastek has been named the new executive vice President of merchandising, effective immediately. The 33-year Home Depot veteran takes over for Jeff Kinnaird, who has decided to leave the company.

Billy is an experienced merchant, leader and mentor who is known for his innovative approach to merchandising, transforming The Home Depot’s product assortment and bringing incredible value to our customers. We’re fortunate to have a talented bench of senior leaders like Billy, as well as future leaders across the company, and I look forward to working with him in his new and expanded role.

Billy Bastek began his Home Depot career at the predecessor to HD Supply back in 1989. He’s held various roles across the company, most recently as senior vice president of hardlines.

According to The Home Depot’s press release, teams under his leadership have modernized the power tools and outdoor power categories to battery power, and have grown Halloween and holiday categories with record sell-through.

While no reason was given for Jeff Kinnaird’s departure, The Home Depot CEO, Ted Decker, had the following statement.

Jeff has made significant contributions to The Home Depot since starting in the lumber aisle nearly 27 years ago and progressing through every role in our stores. His leadership of our Canadian division and more recently of our merchandising, marketing and online businesses is greatly appreciated. Jeff has been a champion of our culture and values, and I would like to thank him for his hard work and numerous contributions across his career. I wish him well in his future endeavors.

As we’re gearing up for the grilling season, The Home Depot noted some price sensitivity on their earnings call last month. We’ll see if they can overcome that with their new, exclusive Nexgrill products and their new relationship with LoCo Cookers.
