If you’re looking sell your sauce or rub at Kroger or Albertsons, you might be talking to the same buyer for both companies in the near future. Kroger plans to buy Albertsons for $24.6 billion to create by far the largest supermarket chain.
They’ll be about 50% bigger than the next 3 largest supermarket chains (Ahold Delhaize, Publix, and H-E-B) combined on a 2021 revenue basis. This would put the combined entity neck and neck with Walmart, the largest grocer in the US. Big news came out of Weber this week that they’re rumored to be exploring taking on more debt and possibly were approached about a sale. They just replaced another executive, leaving just one with a tenure over 11 months in their current job. We estimate that all the executive turnover will cost them around $4 million, which doesn’t help their cash problems.
HALO released a new countertop griddle this week that has a very thought-out design. The griddle top is inset into the body giving it wind protection and it has a quick release propane hose to switch between 1 lb and 20 lb tanks.
Both HALO and Solo Stove have released carts specifically designed for their table top products. They add a level of convenience to cooking, but they’re not cheap at a few hundred dollars. We’ll see if they catch on with consumers.
Next week Gozney is going to release the Tom Gozney Signature Edition Roccbox. The new pizza oven is said to be inspired by Tom Gozney’s journey of substance abuse recovery to founding the company.
In other news, Nexgrill is expanding their business from grills to other outdoor products with the release of a patio heater. Also, Camp Chef’s parent company Vista Outdoor announced that they’re releasing earnings on November 2nd. This will be our first glimpse of how the grilling season finished.
