Masterbuilt Adds Larger 1150 Model to the Gravity Series Grills

The Masterbuilt Gravity Series has a very distinct value proposition. It works with the ease of a pellet grill but gives you the smoke of cooking with charcoal.

We tested the 560 model and it delivered on that promise. One other distinct advantage is that the Gravity Series can get to 700 degrees F for grilling, instead of being limited to smoking.

Masterbuilt made some model changes last year when they released the XT model, with an improved controller, and the AutoIgnite 545 which has more of a traditional grill look to it. Beyond that it seems that the 560 is now just sold through wholesale channels, because on their website the entry model is the 600, which was also released last year.

They’ve now added an even larger model with the Gravity Series 1150. It retails for $999 (check price), and as the name would imply, has 1,150 square inches of cooking space. That’s enough to feed a crowd with smoked meat.

Beyond the additional space, it has a closed cabinet design, rather than an open cart. I never seem to use the cabinet space on any of my grills, but that’s an appealing feature to some. It also has a really large folding front shelf for food prep.

There aren’t any other real differences from the rest of the Gravity Series line. All the models are pretty similar, with the exception of the improved controller on the XT, other than size and shape.

That’s not a bad thing, or a knock on the 1150. It’s more of a compliment, that the technology is tried and true.
