Is the New Traeger Woodridge Coming to Replace the Pro Series?

Traeger released the new Timberline in 2022 with a great looking controller, an induction burner, easy cleaning and new styling that moved away from their traditional barrel shape. They have the philosophy of bringing new innovations to their top of the line grill and then cascading them down to the less expensive models.

They stuck to that last year when they released the new Ironwood. It kept many of the features and styling from the Timberline, but got rid of things like the induction burner.

That leaves the Pro series – the Traeger Pro 545 and 780 – that are still good pellet grills, but are looking a little long in the tooth compared the rest of the pack. I’m reading tea leaves and speculating, but I think there’s strong evidence that a new grill is about to be released to replace the Pro series.

Case for the Woodridge

We know that Traeger is going to release a new “grill product” yet this year. It’s been mentioned on Traeger’s earnings calls and in their investor materials.

They haven’t provided any more details than that, but we noticed about two years ago that they filed for a trademark for the name Woodridge. The Pro series has a name that doesn’t follow the convention of the rest of their models.

It currently goes Pro, Ironwood, Timberline for their good, better, best offerings. Two of those names are wood related, which makes sense for a pellet grill, and one has nothing to do with anything grill related. That’s point one.

A Google search of Traeger Woodridge shows our article, but then the results recently started popping up with hardware stores with listings for a Traeger Woodridge. If you click on the links no information is shown, and some of them error out when you click on them.

This usually happens when a new grill is going to be released. Given that we know that a new grill will be released this year, and Woodridge all of a sudden means something in search, is a strong indicator that the Woodridge will be released soon.

What Do we Know?

There aren’t many details that we can tell yet about the Woodridge. Why I think it will be replacing the Pro, and not be a retailer exclusive model, is because of the model names, features, pricing, and the retailers that will be selling it.

The Woodridge it appears will have three models, the Woodridge, the Woodridge Pro, and the Woodridge Elite. I’m guessing they’ll range in pricing from $799.99, $999.99, and $1,599.99 respectively. The fact that their is a “Pro” model of the Woodridge adds more evidence to the case that it will replace the Pro series models.

The biggest question mark from that line-up is what is the Elite model? Is it just the biggest of the pack? What else does it come with? We haven’t figured that out yet.

I think it’s a safe bet that the new Woodridge will have styling similar to the Ironwood and Timberline. I saw some information on Traeger’s import activity and it appeared the Pop-And-Lock accessory system will be available for the grill, which will be a nice addition.

I would guess it will also have the improved igniting capabilities and easy cleanout system from the up-market grills too. It probably will stick with the previous style though and not have Super Smoke.

Is the Pro Series Still a Good Buy?

You can still buy the Pro series models, and likely will still be able to even if a new model is replaced. Traeger has set that precedent with their previous refreshes.

I’ve had a Pro 575 for almost four years now that I’ve put a ton of cooking hours on, and just haven’t gotten around to writing a full review on. It’s always been a solid grill though and it’s a great entry point into the Traeger ecosystem, or Traegerhood.

With the holiday deals rolling out, is it still worth buying? I’d say yes, but if you can find it discounted. There are some better grills at its suggested retail price point, but it’s a nice grill for what the sale price usually is.

At the time of writing, Traeger doesn’t have it on sale, but Ace Hardware amongst some other places does. At Ace it’s $200 off, and I’d say that $599 is a reasonable price the what it offers.
